Well fans,
It has been about two weeks since my last blog, but now that the new year is coming upon us, I thought I would check in and let all of you (I think there are two of you??) know what the plans are for the new year. I still have plantar fasciitis, and it takes a long time to get over this, I have stretched, stopped running and tried everything to get it better. It still hurts, but the pain is getting better. I also bought insoles, so hopefully they will help. I ran for several days in Tennessee, and they have a lot of mountains/hills that Kansas does not have. For a couple of days it was a good run, but eventually my foot just hurt way too bad. I have decided to stop doing anything physical until the first part of the new year. Monday, January 2nd will be the day that I start running again.
Good news!!! I received my new Taebo PT/24, with bands and everything at my house and once I get there, I will start using it. This will be interesting and I will post how it goes with them. I have also decided to get a diet plan that several radio podcasts I listen to use and, although expensive, seems to be worth the price. It is called "weightnot" (at www.weightnot.com) and everything that I have read and listened to seems kosher. I plan on starting it in the first couple of weeks in the new year, probably mid-January. Several of the "Djs" have lost 40-100 lbs...it makes me excited.
I will in the New Year layout my goals, my "resolutions" and let everyone know where I plan on being, but for right now, since I am still on break, I will keep them at bay right now. I will say that I will post my weight and measurements, and even though I am shy about it, I will do it, probably when I start the diet program.
That is about it for now. Thanks for reading, I hope that this keeps people informed and helps keep me motivated.
This is my fitness blog designed mostly to keep me on track. I will also post random things about my life or certain items of interest.

Day 2 of my blog
Hello fans,
Yesterday was a very difficult day in many ways. First of all, as I was running, my plantar fasciitis began to act up really bad and my body compensated for that pain by putting pressure on other parts of my leg, which in turn caused my shin and knee on that particular foot to start hurting. I had to stop running a couple of times and just walk it off or I would not have finished. I did finally finish my run, and I felt "okay" but not too great. I always heard of football players getting plantar fasciitis, but never really thought too much about it. I always assumed it was a terrible thing, and yes, the pain is bad, but nothing compared to what I thought. That of course is coming from someone with A.) a high pain tolerance, and B.) not someone who plays professional sports who has to cut and move all the time on turf. I can definitely understand how this would keep a football player out of the lineup for some time.
For those that do not know what plantar fasciitis is, it is the aggravation of the tendons that are connected to the heal on the bottom part of the foot that extend up the arch of the foot. I have inserted a picture from a website that shows what the plantar fascia is and how it affects the foot. As you can see, this is something that would greatly affect running or any activity of any kind on your feet. One way to combat this is to rest (which I will do this weekend, more of that coming up), but there are other exercises and stretches that can be done to help in healing and keep this from returning (although many professional athletes who have issues with their plantar fascia tend to keep having it return.) Last night I used some icy/hot and massaged the area, which did help, but it was very painful and is sore to this day.
All that aside, once I was done with my running, I chose to do my second day of Insanity, which in reality, does help out the plantar fascia issue by stretching, getting me up on my toes and helps to loosen the area up (although it is a pain until it gets warmed up.) I finished the entire 40 minute program, only having to stop at required resting times and when I woke up this morning, found myself EXTREMELY SORE!!! I like the feeling, but I am just being honest.
So for today, the plan is to run and do yet another disc of Insanity, then head out on my nice vacation. I plan on leaving this afternoon to Wichita, meet up with friends then tomorrow morning leave bright and early to Kansas City to watch the Chiefs lose to the Packers. This is a day I will be resting, because of the early departure and the relaxing company of friends (and beer) while tailgating and watching the game. I am staying in KC and then driving to Knoxville the next morning so that will be yet another day of rest. My hope is once I am in Knoxville staying with family, I will be able to get back on to my running and workout programs (I WILL get back on them) and I am having an extended stay with my mom and sister, so I should hop right back on it. I am a little concerned as Tennessee has a lot more of those "things" that Kansas does not have...you know, HILLS...MOUNTAINS...!!! My hope is that my running and fitness takes a giant leap in Tennessee as I have never really had the opportunity to run up and down inclines here in Kansas.
I will attempt to post my fitness blog again next week once I start running in Tennessee, but for now, good day to you all!!!

First Blog
Good morning,
This is my first attempt at an actual blog. I have yet to determine if it will be a daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly blog, but I will do my best to update it as much as possible. For those reading thing, you probably know that I have been trying to keep the progress of my workouts on Facebook, and keep a running tally of the days I run or do Insanity or any other type of workout. It helps me to keep track of my progress and how good of shape I actually may be getting. A brief (very brief) history. I was a mediocre high school athlete, I played football, wrestled and played baseball. I was varsity on football the end of sophomore year, junior year and senior year. I was a varsity wrestler my sophomore, junior and senior years and varsity baseball junior and senior years. I have not been blessed with the best genetics, but really, who has. I have always been a big guy, my freshman year in High School starting out at 180lbs. but I have always been tall. I gradually went from 5'9 my freshman year to 6'2 my senior year (maybe first year in college). I then went to Neosho County Community College on a wrestling scholarship to wrestle. I was not any good, I was 190lbs and wrestled heavyweight (there were 10 All Americans at the 190lb weight class, so the next weight up was heavyweight, which went all the way up to 280 lbs.). I spent about two years doing that then transferred to Wichita State University where I joined the rowing team and became Co-Captain of the team by my senior year (I was most improved my first year rowing, everyone doubted that I could even do the sport...I showed them!!!). The best shape I was in was my last year of rowing. I did dance and theatre while in college and teamed up dancing with the rowing workouts and started running about an hour a day on the treadmill. All this led me to the best shape of my life, but unfortunately, I graduated and stopped working out so much but kept eating like I was. Then I was introduced to beer. This poor combination led me to gain 60 lbs in about a year...fairly unhealthy!!!
After gaining this weight, I decided I would attempt to lose it, which I was successful on MANY occasions. I have lost and gained more weight than most people, having my weight fluctuate from 290 (at my heaviest) to 240 (at my lightest). After losing my "career" at a place that I loved working at (a museum most of you will know but will remain anonymous), I worked a lot of crappy full time jobs trying to find something. I did tae kwon do and actually was pretty good at it, getting to the highest level (sadly, one of the major things I miss living where I live). I ballooned up to 290 (or more...lbs.) and was unhappy, had some health problems and not joyous. Starting in March of 2011, I decided I would change all of this and started running. I started out really slow (I am still slow) and not doing a lot of mileage, but was soon up to around 5 to 6 miles a day after work. I lost about 35 lbs. and was getting in shape but summer came and with the heat and my size led me to try to keep the working outside to a minimum, but also led me to a workout called "Insanity". I did Insanity, which was one of the hardest workouts I have ever done outside of college athletics. The major problem was that Insanity was so hard on the joint, the knees, ankles etc that trying to do it all the time would lead to injury. I was finally successful in finishing a months worth of Insanity, but I was not losing any weight. I have an issue with calorie control (obviously) and when you live in a remote area where there is little to do, it is difficult to keep from eating.
Recently I ordered the Tae Bo boot camp, which comes with bands and dvds to do the workout. It promises results in 7 days and I am sure I will try it. I have heard both good and bad things, but I will see. I have also started running again (yes in the cold). I don't mind running so much as I used to and find myself in pretty good shape even though I have not lost any weight. I am on Day 11 of running (as of 12/16/11) and started just yesterday doing both the running and Insanity(which was very difficult, I was tired and sore from running and Insanity just killed me...so I didn't get through all of it, although I finished the days program). I am going on vacation to Tennessee where I will continue my workout program, hoping that maybe the hills of Tennessee will aid in the weight loss. I am going to keep this blog along with my tracking on facebook, in hopes that I will lose the weight and get in shape.
