Day 2 of my blog

Hello fans,
Yesterday was a very difficult day in many ways.  First of all, as I was running, my plantar fasciitis began to act up really bad and my body compensated for that pain by putting pressure on other parts of my leg, which in turn caused my shin and knee on that particular foot to start hurting.  I had to stop running a couple of times and just walk it off or I would not have finished.  I did finally finish my run, and I felt "okay" but not too great.  I always heard of football players getting plantar fasciitis, but never really thought too much about it.  I always assumed it was a terrible thing, and yes, the pain is bad, but nothing compared to what I thought.  That of course is coming from someone with A.) a high pain tolerance, and B.) not someone who plays professional sports who has to cut and move all the time on turf.  I can definitely understand how this would keep a football player out of the lineup for some time.

For those that do not know what plantar fasciitis is, it is the aggravation of the tendons that are connected to the heal on the bottom part of the foot that extend up the arch of the foot.  I have inserted a picture from a website that shows what the plantar fascia is and how it affects the foot.  As you can see, this is something that would greatly affect running or any activity of any kind on your feet.  One way to combat this is to rest (which I will do this weekend, more of that coming up), but there are other exercises and stretches that can be done to help in healing and keep this from returning (although many professional athletes who have issues with their plantar fascia tend to keep having it return.)  Last night I used some icy/hot and massaged the area, which did help, but it was very painful and is sore to this day.

All that aside, once I was done with my running, I chose to do my second day of Insanity, which in reality, does help out the plantar fascia issue by stretching, getting me up on my toes and helps to loosen the area up (although it is a pain until it gets warmed up.)  I finished the entire 40 minute program, only having to stop at required resting times and when I woke up this morning, found myself EXTREMELY SORE!!!  I like the feeling, but I am just being honest.

So for today, the plan is to run and do yet another disc of Insanity, then head out on my nice vacation.  I plan on leaving this afternoon to Wichita, meet up with friends then tomorrow morning leave bright and early to Kansas City to watch the Chiefs lose to the Packers.  This is a day I will be resting, because of the early departure and the relaxing company of friends (and beer) while tailgating and watching the game.  I am staying in KC and then driving to Knoxville the next morning so that will be yet another day of rest.  My hope is once I am in Knoxville staying with family, I will be able to get back on to my running and workout programs (I WILL get back on them) and I am having an extended stay with my mom and sister, so I should hop right back on it.  I am a little concerned as Tennessee has a lot more of those "things" that Kansas does not have...you know, HILLS...MOUNTAINS...!!!  My hope is that my running and fitness takes a giant leap in Tennessee as I have never really had the opportunity to run up and down inclines here in Kansas.

I will attempt to post my fitness blog again next week once I start running in Tennessee, but for now, good day to you all!!!
